A common issue with the S55 engine found in the F80, F82, F83 and F87 is a ticking noise generally heard at idle speed.
Many owners fear the worst and have sleepless nights thinking about potential engine damages. The cause of this noise may be a simple alignment fault of the exhaust camshaft caps.
To investigate this, the cylinder head cover requires removal and the alignment of the exhaust camshaft caps checked and corrected using the special tooling
Once the camshaft caps have been adjusted the bolts are replaced, torqued to spec and the engine is rebuilt. Post work checks are carried to ensure the fault is cured and no leaks are evident.
Very few workshops ( even approved franchised retailers) carry the special tools required to successfully complete this repair.
