With ever increasing demands for fuel efficiency and power, modern combustion engines are now direct fuel injected. This means the tip of the injector lies in the combustion chamber for the fuel to be injected directly where it is required for minimum waste and maximum efficiency. Unfortunately, the side effect of this is that the [...]
A well documented issue with BMW 4 cylinder diesel engines is a failure of the timing chain. Stretched, or even broken chains can cause catastrophic engine damage. A symptom can include an unpleasant noise from the engine. However, sometimes sudden failure can occur leaving the owner with a non-running car, huge inconvenience and large repair bills. As with [...]
To meet European emission standards, modern BMW diesel engines have included the use of swirl flaps to increase efficiency at low engine load. Due to the nature of being a moving part, wear can occur at the pivot and failure is all too common. Should you suffer this, catastrophic engine damage is very possible. Removal of these valves [...]
Today saw a BMW X6 in with a stalling fault. Running ISTA diagnostics revealed that a fuel injector was failing under load causing the cylinder bank to shut down. A new fuel injector, programming and she's right as rain!
